|How can I even pretend to be a real e-zine without a page for headlines!?
This section will contain newsworthy events related to the strip club business,
especially as it pertains to Los Angeles. Events covered by the traditional
media will still be in the Media Bites section. This section will be reported
by myself and other reporters for Z Bone.
Well, here you go and here we go. One step closer to being just another boring
e-zine. Yeah, right!
Rhino Charges and Goes to England!
April 15, 2000
The Spearmint Rhino
chain expands further by having their grand opening of their downtown Los
Angeles club in May 2000.
In further Rhino news, the chain has opened an adult "superstore" in the
City of Industry at 15429 E. Valley Blvd. This will allow the City of Industry
Spearmint Rhino to
close the bookstore section and expand the club section. This renovation
is currently in the works.
In related Rhino news, Spearmint Rhino announces that it has opened a club
in London England at 161 Tottenham Court Rd. and another soon to open in
Birmingham. The Rhino corporation has acquired Cherokee Leisure, Ltd (a publicly
traded company in the UK), in a "reverse merger". This aquisision allows
the Rhino corporation to take over Cherokee's Birmingham facility which is
a 3 story free standing 10,000 square feet facility and open it as an adult
Deja Vu Opens in Westminster
February 17, 2000
The Deja Vu
chain has bought the old Scamps and has opened their doors as of February
15. This location was recently bought by the owner of
Club 215 from Scamps in a
bidding war between several clubs, including Deja Vu. Although the sign outside
still reads "Scamps", Deja Vu got the final word since it appears that they
are going to continue to operate this club as a topless with alcohol club.
Currently, the dancers are doing 3 song sets since it is still slow before
they popularize this new club with their dancers from other branches. Currently,
chair dances are only $15 each, which makes it one of the cheapest at any
Deja Vu branch.
Downtown Spearmint Rhino Burns
January 9, 2000
The downtown branch of the
Spearmint Rhino chain
was damaged by arson on Sunday, January 9th, according to inside sources.
Although the inside of the building was heavily damaged, there was no damage
to the structure of the building or the outside.
John Gray, the owner of Spearmint Rhino had indicated earlier that the club
would open in the February/March 2000 time frame and that the inside of the
club was already basically finished and awaiting permit approvals and
inspections. According to inside sources, fire will not delay the club opening.
The construction crew has been told to work as fast as possible to rebuild
the inside of the club, to keep with their original schedule. The chain has
already spend approximately $1M on this particular club, which has already
received their certificate of occupancy and is currently awaiting the final
OK with the city.

Spearmint Rhino Joins with Hustler Publishing
January 1, 2000
John Gray, President of
has announced that Spearmint Rhino has signed an agreement with Hustler
Publishing to open upscale gentlemen's clubs throughout the world using the
Hustler name brand to be called "Hustler Magazine Gentlemen's Clubs."
According to Gray, the agreement between Rhino and Hustler provides that
Hustler may not be involved with any other cabaret operations and provides
full control to Spearmint Rhino. Spearmint Rhino will continue to open new
Rhino clubs as well as Hustler clubs. The first Hustler club may open in
New York or London, England in the near future. Locations are currently being
scouted by John Gray and his associates.
A highly placed source from Hustler Publishing (LFP) confirms this joining
of forces with Spearmint Rhino but did not comment further on this deal.
Mr. J's Remodels
January 1, 2000
In the summer of 1999, Mr J's remodeled the "big" room that was previously
used for weekday lunch and the weekend male review shows to accommodate the
girls topless shows. A new stage has been built along with a rearranging
of the booths to better see the stage. The new stage is about 4 times larger
then the old one. About 25 chairs are placed around it as opposed to only
8 or chairs that can fit around the stage in the small room.
The male review will continue as in the past on Friday and Saturday nights
as before. The only difference is they will be on the older, smaller stage
in the "Showroom".
